Jasenka Piljac Zegarac, PhD

Science writing has been an important, creative and inspiring part of my career for more than 15 years. My passion for creating high-quality scientific and medical communications solutions stems from witnessing the struggle to ”get published” in academia. Early on, I realized that the ability to produce research results in the lab, and communicate them in writing, are two separate talents.

I founded The Scientist Writer LLC with a mission to facilitate the dissemination of scientific and medical research results professionally, accurately and effectively. 

Throughout the course of my career as a scientific researcher and communicator, I have become well-versed in communicating complex research findings to both professional and lay audiences. With ease, I can filter and condense important findings so that your readers, both professional and lay, are not overwhelmed by unnecessary verbal clutter.

My publication track record includes:

• 38 peer-reviewed original research papers
  (9 in medical journals and 18 as the first and/or corresponding author)
• four book chapters (one published by Academic Press)

My research background is in biologically active compounds, natural products and nutraceuticals. I hold a  PhD degree in Biology from the University of Zagreb, Croatia, and a BS degree in Biochemistry (Honors) from UC Davis, California.  I have held research positions at UC Davis, Washington State University and Michigan State University.

I am a member of the American Medical Writers Association and have served on AMWA’s 2014 Medical Book Awards Committee for books in the public category.
